Woven Wire Mesh

Woven Wire Gauze Mesh

The most common grade of gauze mesh used in industry is Grade 304 Stainless Steel. Woven mesh can also be supplied from other metals such as Grade 316 Stainless Steel, Monel, Brass, Copper, Aluminium, Galvanised Steel and Mild Steel.

Identification of Mesh

If the specification of the mesh is not yet know then with the use of a steel ruler, vernier caliper or micrometer, following the steps below will provide identification.

  1. Measure the wire diameter "D".
  2. Place a steel ruler over the mesh, line up the zero maker over one wire, then count the number of apertures "N" (open spaces) for a convenient length :L: of approximately 20mm to a dimension which lines up over a wire.
  3. The aperture size can be calculated by this simple formula: Aperture A = length measured divided by the number of apertures counted, minus the wire diameter.
  4. Calculate aperture A = (L / N) - D.

If you are still unsure, provide us with a sample of the mesh and we will determine the specification for you.

Ordering Information

Mesh can be purchased in rolls, lengths cut to size, or manufactured into screencloths and other fabricated products such as mesh baskets and filter discs. Roll lengths are normally 30 metres long in standard widths of 1220mm; some specifications are also available in 1000 and 1550mm wide.

Screen cloth dimensions need to be provided when ordering. If the dimensions are not known please refer to the information on how to determine the correct dimensions, which can be found further down. If you are still unsure, one of our Technical Representatives will be available to assist.

Cross-Tensions Screencloth Ordering Information

Please supply the following information when ordering screencloths. If information is difficult to obtain our Technical Representatives are available to assist.

  1. Quantity - State number of screencloths required
  2. Mesh size and type - State the aperture size, wire diameter and material.
  3. Length - The length of a screencloth should be the same length as the side clamp bards. State if an overlap is required. A 25mm overlap can be provided on screens where there is more than one screencloth on a deck. This overlap covers the join between screencloths on the screen deck. The overlap of one screencloth overlaying the next screencloth down the flow of the deck. This ensures oversize product will not pass through the join between screencloths.
  4. Width - For Cross-Tension Screencloths. The width is determined by the screening plants width dimension, this is the measurement between the side plates across the screen deck on the inside, less a minimum 20mm clearance each side (see sketch below).
